Preamble
American Baptist East Church (ABE), having been led by the Spirit of the Lord in counsel with men and women of wisdom, was formed and met for its first worship service October 7, 2001. ABE was formed by a merger of East Side Baptist Church, founded September 4, 1921, and Eastern Heights Baptist Church, founded, June 14, 1959. We present this constitution as a means of fulfilling our duties as Christians as set out in Scripture.
Covenant
We believe in God the Father Almighty and in His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, suffered on the cross at Calvary, died for our sins and arose to conquer sin and death. He is in Heaven where He intercedes for believers. We believe He will come again to bring His bride, the Church, to be with Him.
We intend to live together in unity and Christian love. We will show no bias to persons in matters of worship, fellowship and church government. We will encourage one another in the Christian virtues, fruits and gifts of the Spirit. We will show no partiality in our grace and mercy, as we have been shown no partiality from God the Father in these matters.
We intend to be joyous with those who are joyful, sorrowful with those in sorrow, and generous in our contributions of time, talent and treasure for the encouragement of everyone that God gives to our care.
Purpose Statement
It is the purpose of American Baptist East to practice the ordinances of worship, baptism, fellowship, Christian education and the Lords Supper. Further, ABE will seek to introduce unbelievers to Jesus Christ, offer healing for the hurting, and provide hope for those who are experiencing feelings of despair. This will be accomplished in cooperation with one another, the American Baptist Churches of Indiana/Kentucky and the American Baptist Churches USA and its auxiliary organizations, publications and programs.
